Have a look at the rotational videos of some of the best players in the game.
Look at Kristen Rivera…her video is from the front and it is looped so it plays over and over. She is a rotational hitter and hand path is circular. She still extends after contact but she is not taking her hands to the ball. She is taking the barrel of the bat to the ball.

The video of Crystal Bustos . She is the best hitter in the game. Her video will slow down and clearly shows a circular hand path and she also gets full extension after contact. Look at the bend in both of her elbows just prior to contact. If you do not have this your swing speed is slow and you will be unable to make adjustments and hitting is adjusting.
Have a look at how the hands move back during the load. Most coaches tell the kids to have still hands. This is ok if they start with the hands even with the back shoulder but it is not good if the hands stay stable and close to the head. This makes them feel weak and many hitting flaws come front this. Notice the front shoulder turns in slightly creating torque during the loading phase
Have a really close look at all the videos and the back foot at contact. The old days of squish the bug are gone. It implies the right idea of violently turning and tucking the rear knee in but also causes a collapse on the back side. This happens because they stay on the balls of the back foot causing them to stay back (collapse). Good hitter product a huge amount of bat speed with the lower body. As they step forward and land softly on the front toe with a slightly bent front knee they decide swing or no swing. If they swing at heal touch they transferee an enormous amount of weight into (not onto or on top of) the front leg. This is when the front leg begins to stiffen of become ridged producing the fastest bat speed possible. Because if the player allowed the upper body to stay loose and relaxed (shoulders down not up and tense). Stress a loose grip and soft arms. The upper body with follow just as fast helping in producing bat speed.
The biggest issue that young hitters have is dropping the hands as they start the swing (hitch) or roll or flip the wrist just a contact. This causes a lot of weak grounders or the barrel of the bat to roll over top of the ball. So even if they have great hand eye and get the bat on the proper plane of the pitch they miss high and most people miss this. They say it is something else and wreck a pretty good swing that would have an easy fix. Keep on plane with the ball and do not flip or roll the wrist until long, long after contact.
This does not cover everything. But I believe that even young kids can do these moves. My seven year old hits off a pitching machine and she loads her hands and upper body at contact.
The biggest mistake parents make is adding moves to a swing before they have mastered the first one. Some of this stuff will take months.
A recent study showed that it takes ten years of proper practice, instruction and game time to develop an elite hitter. So take your time and have fun!
